The 5 Points Theatre is located in the Riverside Historic District of Jacksonville. The theater opened in 1927 and was the first theater in Florida to show "talking pictures."
Architect Roy Benjamin designed the Italian Renaissance-style theater along with over 200 other theaters in the Southeast. In 1949, the theater was renovated and received its historic marquee. In the 80s and 90s, 5 Points operated as a playhouse and a nightclub. The building now offers retail and office space and rental space for private parties and events. Recent restorations have turned Jacksonville's oldest movie theater into its newest.
The Riverside Historic District was one of the most concentrated commercial developments of the 1910s and 1920s. Today, the area is still home to individually owned shops, cafes, bars and music venues. The area is also well known for its artistic elements and eclectic people.
